Life is Sacred
On earth, men live and breathe.
While the earth floats like a mote
of dust in the galaxy.
Men marvel at the rising and
setting of the sun; the moon;
the beauty of the stars in
the indigo sky.
Earth is where we dream; where,
we live, love, and die; witness
a baby's birth; listen to its first
cry_ listen to a mother sing
a sweet lullaby. Carl Sagan
There was a time when the holy ones
walked among us, and the waters
ran fresh and clear_ when the
fields were full of flowers
and honey bees.
When the air was fresh and
clear_ all life was
sacred.
Man has drifted afar: How long
can he shut his eyes, his ears?
When did Man decide he no
longer cares? It seems he's forgotten all that he once held dear.
Forgot his mother, father, neighbor,
lover too: Forgot the soft rains
of spring_ of young children
running barefoot on the
grass on a lazy summer
afternoon.
Earth is where sacred things happen:
Heaven is all around us, but who will
re-awaken man - remind him
of this? Man needs reminding
many times - in many
ways that Earth is
the place where
sacred things
happen.
Out on the plains, the deserts,
the mountains and here_
by the water's edge
